Try Something New in 2026

Fun, Active Trends Perfect for the Coast

Yes, it’s already 2026—hard to believe, isn’t it? With the new year comes all kinds of resolutions to get in shape and be more active. If you’re tired of the same old workouts, how about trying something new?
Here are some new and unexpected ways you can stay active, get in shape and have a ton of fun!

Fun After Dark, No Lights Needed
Disc golf has been around for years, but the latest twist—nighttime glow-in-the-dark rounds—is catching fire across the country.
Courses like Brickyard Bayou in Gulfport and Hiller Park in Biloxi are popular daytime spots and can easily transform into neon-lit playgrounds after dark. With glow discs or little LED stickers, you can turn an ordinary evening into a bright, low-pressure competition among friends.

Surfing, No Waves Required
We have a beach, but hardly any surf. So if you’re craving the feeling of carving through a wave, you might want to give Surfskating a shot. It’s basically skateboarding on a board with special trucks that let you pump and carve like you’re riding water.

Our smooth beachfront sidewalks, quiet parking lots, and open stretches of pavement are perfect for learning the “flow” of a surfskate. You could try it at the Biloxi beachfront and parks all over the Coast. All you need is a board, a helmet, and a willingness to wobble before you glide.

Slow, Relaxing, and Surprisingly Addictive
All over the country, people are diving into the world of foraging, not just for mushrooms or plants, but for shells, driftwood, shark teeth, and tiny fossils. And this is one trend the Coast is built for.

Our beaches (and marshes if you like) are ideal for treasure hunting, especially after storms or during low tides. All you need is a bucket and a good eye—or a mesh sieve if you want to level up. It’s a great way to find small treasures while being active.

Catching the Wind Without Getting Wet
Similarly, if you’ve ever watched windsurfers and thought, “That looks fun… if only I didn’t have to get in the water,” skate sailing might be your new favorite sport. Instead of a windsurfer on water, you use a skateboard on pavement.

The Coast is practically built for it. Our long stretches of flat pavement and steady coastal winds make skate sailing easily doable. All you need is a board, a small sail, and enough balance to let the Gulf breeze push you forward.

Like Regular Biking, but More Fun!
Electric bikes continue to boom everywhere, and the Coast is no different. Our flat, scenic beachfront and steadily-growing number of off-road trails feel like they were designed for e-bikes.

You can get them at almost any local bike shop now, with models ranging from cruisers to mountain bikes and everything in between. With event rides and casual group outings becoming more common, e-biking is an easy, low-impact way for people of all ages to get moving again.

Your Next Favorite Hobby
The Coast has always been a place where people love to get outside and try something new. Now more than ever, there are fresh, creative ways to stay active. The new year is the perfect time to step out of your comfort zone and give one of these a try. You may just find your new favorite hobby!
