The Garage at Cash Alley

Some restaurants give you a pretty plate and call it a meal. Then there are the places that put a full-size plate in front of you and basically say, “You better be hungry.”

That was my experience at The Garage at Cash Alley in Ocean Springs. Walking in feels a little like stepping inside an old-time car garage from back in the day—but with a modern twist. The space has personality and a laid-back energy that makes you want to pull up a seat, order a drink, and stay awhile. It’s the kind of place where dinner can easily turn into an evening with friends, good conversation, and another round.

And then there’s the food! We started with the Loaded Nachos, and “loaded” is exactly right. Rosemary tallow chips are piled with pulled pork, queso, RC Cola barbecue sauce, onions, peppers, tomatoes, candied jalapeños, and green onions. The tallow chips provide a rich, savory base for the pulled pork and creamy queso, while the RC Cola barbecue sauce brings a sweet barbecue flavor. The candied jalapeños add a sweet heat that cuts through the richness, while the fresh vegetables and green onions add color and crunch. This is not an appetizer that disappears in three bites—it’s substantial enough to make a meal out of.

The Philly Cheesesteak with tallow fries was next. Sliced ribeye, grilled onions, peppers, and pepper jack cheese are tucked into a sliced hoagie roll, creating a hearty sandwich packed with flavor. The grilled onions and peppers complement the beef, while the pepper jack adds a little extra kick. The tallow fries are a perfect match—golden, hearty, and rich enough to keep you reaching for “just one more.”

Then came the Blue Plate Special: Country Fried Steak, served every day. Country fried steak is covered in white gravy and served with mashed potatoes, green beans with bacon, and a roll. This is Southern comfort food that doesn’t apologize for being comforting. The creamy gravy belongs right alongside the mashed potatoes, while the bacon adds a smoky, savory touch to the green beans. It’s a full, satisfying plate that arrives looking like dinner means business.

To drink, we had the Transfusion, made with Tito’s vodka, grape juice, lime juice, and ginger ale. The vibrant purple cocktail is sweet, citrusy, and refreshing—a fun contrast to the hearty food. What I enjoyed most about The Garage at Cash Alley is that the food and atmosphere work together. The portions are generous, the plates are hearty, and the atmosphere encourages you to slow down and enjoy yourself.

So come hungry! Pull up a chair. Order a drink. Grab some nachos. Get the Philly and tallow fries—or go all in with the country fried steak. The Garage at Cash Alley is ready for you.
