What’s Trending in Health Apps

Your smartphone, designed to make your life more convenient and provide easy access to information, can be a powerful tool in your health journey. I’ve taken the initiative to explore the latest health and wellness apps, not to endorse any particular one, but to provide an overview of those that have competencies many find useful. Some are free, while others require payment or subscription enrollment.

Yuka
Want to know the impact of a candy bar or rose petal lotion on your health? This may be the app for you. Yuka allows you to scan food and personal item barcodes to see how they impact your health. If the impact is negative, it makes healthier alternative recommendations.

Headspace
Claiming to be backed by scientific studies, this app provides meditations, podcasts, mindful workouts, and focus improvement tools. It is reported to reduce stress levels in only 10 days. Its claim to fame is making mental health support available to all individuals.

Withings Health Mate
This app is your personal health assistant, designed to help you achieve your unique health goals. It monitors your weight, sleep, and activity, providing personalized health data. It can be used alone or synced with other health devices. Plus, it can share your health data with your chosen health provider.

iCardiac
An all heart all encompassing app, this app measures heart rate, beats per minute, and your heart rate variability. It has an AI doctor who analyzes your stats and provides personalized suggestions to optimize your heart health. It offers weekly health tests and generates detailed summarized reports.

Sleep Cycle
This tracks sleep, analyzes data, and suggests improving sleep schedules and habits.  Suggestions come from measuring time in bed, sleep duration, and room sounds. It even provides bedtime tips and relaxation exercises to enhance sleep quality.

My Fitness Pal
My personal favorite, this app is your one-stop-shop for health and fitness. It’s an all-inclusive fitness, nutrition, hydration, and weight loss tracker. Features include personalized meal plans, calorie tracking, nutrition goal monitoring, and a food diary. You’ll learn from your own habits and improve in areas that matter to you.
