Salute Italian & Seafood Restaurant

Italian. Seafood. Healthy. That’s the newest mantra from Salute Italian & Seafood Restaurant in Gulfport, one of the Gulf Coast’s restaurant staples and it definitely ticks all the boxes.

Salute is the brainchild of restaurateur Rob Stinson and has been a destination on the culinary map of the Coast since its doors opened in 2007. With an extensive menu and prime location, Salute has stood the test of restaurant time by providing delicious food, affordable pricing, and a casual, laidback atmosphere.

Like his three-word catchphrase, Stinson could be described as: Chef. Businessman. Philanthropist. His love of the art of cooking transcends decades. As someone who came up through the ranks of cooking, serving and managing restaurants, Stinson knew exactly how he wanted his visions to come to life, but also how to give back to those that were always lending their support. Never one to settle, Stinson continues to evolve Salute into the best restaurant it can be, but most importantly, he wants Salute to be a reflection of exactly what his customers need.

Salute offers an extensive menu offering an attractive $9.99 Lunch Menu, Starters, and Lite Bites, decadent entrees, fresh seafood, Heart Healthy items, and even vegan options. Stinson recommends everyone start with the Calamari Fritti at least once as it is a true Italian restaurant staple. The Eggplant Caprese Napoleon is one of Stinson’s original creations and is his take on the classic Caprese Salad. Italian breaded eggplant is lightly fried and layered between slices of fresh tomato and mozzarella then topped with an in-house tomato aioli and balsamic vinaigrette. There are so many contrasts between the flavors, textures, and temperatures of each element, making this dish truly exciting and one I would order time and time again.

Stinson recognizes the importance of an easy, quick lunch that won’t break the bank and his $9.99 Lunch Menu cannot be beat. The Four Cheese Tortellini is a house favorite, showcasing mozzarella, parmesan, ricotta and Romano cheeses in a house Alfredo sauce. A customer favorite is the Eggplant Gondola, Stinson’s adaption of the classic Eggplant Pirogue, with thinly fried eggplant served over linguine and topped with a delectable shrimp and crawfish sauce. My hands-down favorite, however, is the newest addition: Fresh Gnocchi and Shrimp Tomato Basil Cream Sauce. Gnocchi is a small, pillow-like pasta ball made from potatoes. If it’s not your favorite, then you likely haven’t had it fresh. Salute’s handmade gnocchi is what I imagine a cloud would be like. It’s so soft and delicate and absolutely indulgent. The house tomato basil cream sauce and shrimp take this dish over the top. It is an absolute must try!

The seafood dishes at Salute are an excellent choice. One of Stinson’s favorites is the Grilled Seafood Plate featuring grilled shrimp, blackened scallops, and a house crab cake, all accompanied by fresh vegetables. Still, for those who are looking for that true Italian experience, the Chicken Alfredo and the Lasagna al Forno are there just for you! Don’t forget to end your meal with an incredible Cannoli, Salute’s signature Tiramisu, or, let’s be honest, you should just get both!

What started as primarily an Italian restaurant has grown to include the seafood dishes that we on the Gulf Coast love, as well as healthy options for those days you know you can’t splurge. Boasting a family-friendly environment, Salute loves hosting birthdays, celebrations, work events and much more.

Stinson’s goals has always been to provide delicious meals to his customers and in such a way that meets all their needs. Years of continual research has resulted in a restaurant that caters to everyone. If you ask Stinson what’s his secret weapon for keeping Salute so successful he would smile and say “By simply making great food.”
