In my little family, Greek food is a total favorite. My daughters, nieces, and I stand around the kitchen bar chopping every ingredient for the delectable sauce known as tzatziki. Tzatziki originated in Greek culture and flourished throughout Southeast Europe, the Middle East, and is now common around the world. This sauce is usually served as a side dish or marinade for grilled meat and vegetables, or as a dip for pita bread.
To make tzatziki, Greek yogurt is typically mixed with diced cucumber, minced garlic, and fresh herbs such as dill or mint. Lemon juice, salt, and pepper are also added to give it the zesty taste it is known for. The dip is usually chilled for a few hours before serving to allow the flavors to combine.
Tzatziki is a refreshing and healthy dip that is high in protein, calcium, and other nutrients. It is also low in fat and calories, making it a great option for those who are watching their weight or trying to eat healthily.
