When the summer heat hits the Gulf Coast like a wall, there’s no better way to cool down than with something cold, colorful, and just sweet enough to feel indulgent. Enter Coastal Bowls, a charming little oasis tucked away on Lemoyne Boulevard in Biloxi. It’s the kind of place you might pass if you weren’t looking for it, but trust me, it’s worth seeking out.
I recently stopped by with a friend and we went full throttle, sampling the four most photogenic bowls on the menu: the Puerto Rican, the White Sand, the Island Vibes, and the Dragonberry. Each one was as beautiful as it was satisfying—surprisingly filling, even. We also tried a smoothie (more on that later), and by the end of our tasting, I was planning my next visit.
Let’s start with the Puerto Rican bowl. With a deep purple açaí base and a medley of strawberries, blueberries, and bananas, this one was classic but elevated. The açaí tasted like a cross between blackberries and huckleberries—bold and rich. The fruit was at peak ripeness, and the Nutella drizzle didn’t just sit on top—it made its way into every bite, lending a silky sweetness that pulled everything together.
Next up: the White Sand. This bowl is a coconut lover’s dream, made with a creamy coconut cream sorbet base and topped with bananas, mango, pineapple, coconut flakes, and granola. It was smooth, mellow, and tropical, with a faint note of vanilla that reminded me of a homemade dessert. We added bee pollen for a touch of adventure, and it added a pleasantly floral honey note and extra texture.
The Dragonberry bowl, with its vivid magenta dragon fruit base, was the boldest of the bunch. I’m more familiar with the mild flavor of white dragonfruit, but this red variety packed a punch. The pineapple and coconut flakes added bright, sunny bursts of sweetness, while the goji berries practically stole the show. They’re chewy and intense with a sharp berry flavor.
And then there was the Island Vibes, which was full of flavor and a medley of textures. I had reservations at first (spirulina is not exactly a buzzword that screams “yum”), but this bowl won me over. The blue base tasted mostly of pineapple with a light earthy note from the spirulina that reminded me of matcha in some bites and wakame salad in others—in a good way. Paired with mango, kiwi, and coconut flakes, it had the best texture combination: creamy, crunchy, chewy, and juicy all in one.
We also sampled the Dragon Fruit smoothie, made with dragon fruit sorbet, pineapple, and coconut water. We added a scoop of coconut cream sorbet, and that move took it to the next level. It brought out the flavor of the coconut water and made us feel like we were on a tropical island!
The vibe inside Coastal Bowls is as breezy and beachy as the food. Hand-painted murals by Cali Rob bring the walls to life, wicker light fixtures hang overhead, and there are two cute photo ops, including a fun “Good Vibes” wall and an outdoor lounge setup.
Whether you’re chasing something healthy, fun, or Instagram-worthy, Coastal Bowls has it all. It’s a more nutritious alternative to ice cream, but it hits the same sweet spot. Perfect for post-workouts, kid-friendly adventures, or just escaping the heat, this place is a cool little gem on the Coast.
