Discover a Waterfront Paradise with 30-Acres of BBQ, Music, Camping, and Adventure
When you’re ready for an eclectic getaway camping under the stars, savoring smoked ribs, dancing to live blues, or catching coastal finfish at sunset, this oasis resort in Ocean Springs is South Mississippi at its finest.
Nestled on the tranquil banks of Old Fort Bayou, this local gem highlights the Orrison family’s dream of a true coastal adventure. The 30-acre bankside paradise features world-class barbecue, oysters, seafood, and speciality cocktails, as well as high-energy live blues shows, camping, RV sites, waterfront fun, and a dash of Southern eccentricity, all blended into one unforgettable experience.
And with live music five days a week, there’s always a reason to dance under the South Mississippi sky. Add in outdoor movies on the grassy lawn, fishing on the 500-foot pier, and the chance to launch kayaks or small boats from the bayou-side ramp, and the list of activities is endless. Even four-legged family members have space to play and stretch.
The heart of this unique resort is The Cozy Rosy Glamp Ground, a charming and creative campground filled with character and a sense of community that’s equally rustic and artistic. Campers can stay in beautifully curated glamping tents, enjoy tranquil mornings in the community garden, and appreciate the ongoing beautification projects. There’s even a Cozy Rosy Ladybug Camp store with snacks, ice, charcoal, camping and fishing supplies, friendly conversation, and a complimentary cup of coffee.
If you’re a birdwatcher, the sprawling 19,000-acre preserve, the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge, surrounds the property with a myriad of bird and wildlife species. You might even spot the pair of American Bald Eagles that nest on-site and are often seen playing and soaring over the bayou.
The multi-faceted resort destination and barbecue heaven is situated just off Interstate 10 at 7501 Mississippi 57 and is an Orrison family collaboration. Located along mile markers eight and nine on Old Fort Bayou, this one-of-a-kind water bank isn’t just a mark on your map, it’s a family legacy in motion that you don’t want to paddle by without checking out.
The property also includes a collection of food and drink concepts that reflect both local flavor and family heritage like The Roasted Oyster Bar on the Bayou. This seafood-lover’s dream is right on the water and features the talents of oyster curators Tres Hundertmark, a 30-year award-winning chef known as the “oyster geek” and his partner, Doreen Rivers-Graham, known as the “oyster sommelier,” who also holds titles as one of the nation’s fastest woman oyster shuckers.
If you’re feeling adventurous, the bayou eatery offers oyster connoisseurs a one-of-a-kind experience: North Carolina-style roasted oysters cooked over a live wood fire. These are served in family-style buckets, or you can order a mixed flight of raw and grilled specialty oysters. Now, if you’re craving something spicy and seasonal, head out back to The Crawfish Shack, where fresh boils are a staple during the season. For those looking to unwind with a cocktail, The Bourbon Saloon pays tribute to the Orrison family’s Midwestern roots and love for good whiskey, warm conversations, and rustic charm.
Originally bought in 1986 by the Orrison family, the campground was a cherished family retreat before it was sold in 2005. In 2023, siblings Brad Orrison and Brooke Lewis were honored to purchase back their parents’ campground, reviving it with new life and a whole lot of soul.
The Orrison siblings are no strangers to creating memorable experiences. In 2001, they opened the legendary The Shed Barbeque & Blues Joint right next door. With its funky decor, championship barbecue, and live blues shows, The Shed quickly became a cult favorite across the South and beyond. Upon opening, their brother Brett Orrison set the stage, creating what is now one of the most legendary blues venues in the state. He scheduled many phenomenal musical guests over the years and now owns Spaceflight Records, the country’s only nonprofit record label and recording studio in Austin, Texas.
The property also plays host to nationally recognized barbecue competitions each year, where guests can get up close with some of the best pitmasters in the world and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of championship-level barbecue.
Whether you’re planning a weekend escape, a staycation, or just stopping by for dinner, there’s always something exciting in the works.
“Be sure to follow us on social media to keep up with our music lineup, exciting events at The Shed and Cozy Rosy, and our family’s world travels as we proudly represent South Mississippi at barbecue competitions across the country,” Brooke Lewis says.
